ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC – Windward Islands Volcanoes have named uncapped batsmen Desron Maloney and Dillon Douglas in their 14-man squad for the Regional Super50 starting next month.
Maloney, 28, grabbed the attention of selectors with heaving scoring, which saw him gather an impressive hundred in the final of three practice matches last month.
Douglas, meanwhile, who celebrated his 21st birthday last month, has also received the nod and will join the squad led again by former West Indies vice-captain, Kirk Edwards.
Left-arm spinner all-rounder, Kavem Hodge, has been installed as Edwards’s understudy.
Windwards have also been boosted by the inclusion of West Indies Under-19 star Bhaskar Yadram, a talented 20-year-old strokemaker who hails from Guyana while fast bowler Shermon Lewis, who played two Tests last year, is also in the squad.
Experienced left-handed opener Devon Smith and off-spinner Shane Shillingford, both with international cricket behind them, will provide the experience.
Champions of the first of two Super50 tournaments played last year, Windwards struggled in the last campaign, winning a single preliminary round match to miss out on the semi-finals.
This year, they have been installed in Group B alongside last year’s beaten finalists, Guyana Jaguars, West Indies Emerging Players, United States and hosts Trinidad & Tobago Red Force.
The tournament runs from November 6 to December 1.
