Two men, who the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) had said were caught with 94 lbs of suspected marijuana at Parika during last week were yesterday remanded to prison after they were charged with possession of narcotics for trafficking.
Shafeek Latif, 39, of 535 Tuschen New Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) and Naresh Totaram, 35, of 632 Tuschen, New Housing Scheme, EBE appeared before Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
They both denied the allegation and were remanded to prison until November 8.
CANU in a press release had said that the men were taken into custody around 3 am last Wednesday after the drugs were found in a Spacio motor car which they occupied.
The agency had said that the vehicle was intercepted at Parika during which two bulky salt bags containing the suspected cannabis were unearthed.
