A Corentyne man was yesterday charged in connection with the hit and run accident which resulted in the death of Premchand Harripaul along the Number 76 Village, Corentyne Public Road on Saturday afternoon.
Yadesh Rooplall, 33, appeared at the Springlands Magistrate’s Court where he was charged with causing death by dangerous driving, failure to stop after an accident and failure to render assistance to the injured person (s).
Rooplall, who appeared before Magistrate Alex Moore, was placed on $200,000 ball on the causing death by dangerous driving charge and $50,000 each on the two other charges. He will return to court on December 19 for report.
Meanwhile, a post-mortem examination revealed that Harripaul died as a result of multiple injuries sustained about the body.
Harripaul, 27, of Lot 62 Section A, Number 69 Village, Corentyne, was discovered dead along the Number 76 Village, Corentyne Public Road.
After the discovery of his body, a search was carried out at the scene and broken glass from a vehicle’s headlight was discovered a short distance away.
Police after launching an investigation found Rooplall’s damaged vehicle, HC 9684, at a bodywork and spray paint shop located in Crabwood Creek, Upper Corentyne on Sunday. Rooplall was arrested on the said day at Linepath, Upper Corentyne.
