The Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha (GHDS) is inviting the public to attend the 45th running of its annual Diwali Motorcade to be held on Saturday October 26th.
According to a GHDS release, over 30 floats from around the country are expected to participate in this year’s motorcade. The procession will be accompanied by bhajans and tassa and the illuminations and depictions related to the festival of Diwali. The GHDS describes it as “breathtaking to behold. It will definitely be a celebration of Guyanese creativity.”
The Sabha advises persons to line the route, especially the seawalls, by 6:00pm in order to view the entire parade. Those desirous of an up-close view of this year’s floats can visit the starting point – the Shri Krishna Mandir, Campbellville at 6:00pm before the floats leave at 6:45pm. The motorcade will make its way along Sandy Babb Street, Kitty into Vlissengen Road and along the Seawall/ Rupert Craig Highway to LBI Community Centre Ground.
Those viewing the motorcade along the Seawall are advised to take up their positions early as roads leading to that area will be closed from 7:00pm. The motorcade will begin moving along the seawall at 7:00pm. Persons can use Conversation Tree, UG Road, Pike and Sheriff Streets to access the Southern carriageway of the seawall road. Parking will be permitted on the Southern side of the road and spectators can just step across to the Northern Seawall and have an excellent view of the floats.

Parking will be permitted on the Southern side of the road and spectators can just step across to the Northern Seawall and have a great view of the floats.
The grand cultural programme will commence at 7pm at the LBI Community Centre Ground where admission is free. There are strict no-alcohol and no-gambling policies both in the venue and the surrounding area. The lineup of artistes on the programme includes top Guyanese singers, Sookrane Boodhoo, Rekha Singh, Artie Sookhai Khellawan, Suraj Singh, Richie Hansraj, Naveen Rooplall and other guest artistes along with Dharmic Nritya Sangh and Farishtey Dance Troupe.
On the 25th of October, there will be two motorcades, Oceanview Mandir, Compound, West Coast Demerara and Diamond Tarmac, East Bank Demerara, hosted by the West Coast and East Bank Demerara Praants of Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha. They both commence at 6:30pm and admission is free.
