Football administrators Faizal Khan and Frank ‘English’ Parris have expressed reservations about contesting for the top post of the Georgetown Football Association [GFA], when the entity hosts an Extraordinary General Meeting on November 2nd at the Pegasus Hotel, Kingston.
This was disclosed by the duo following brief invited comments. Khan, who serves as the General Secretary of the Georgetown Football Club [GFC], disclosed his hesitation in seeking the top post due to the politicized nature of the presidency.
Likewise Parris, who holds the portfolio of Vice President of Elite League side Santos, echoed similar sentiments.
The sporting enthusiast revealed that while he is unable to contest the polls due to his Elite League status, it was unlikely that he would challenge for the helm of the association if it was permissible owing to the political nature of the job.
Meanwhile, a source close to the GFA stated that many individuals are unlikely to contest the elections due to the current state of the association.
According to a source close to the association, “A lot work is needed to reactivate Georgetown football and it needs the support of many entities and the GFF. The IMC came in and sadly failed, nothing tangible occurred and to date prize monies are still outstanding to teams for a single tournament hosted. Football is in a terrible state in the country and it’s even worse off in Georgetown.”
The source added, “Football is currently in a coma at the moment, we need the right people at the helm of the association to help drag it out of this state of dormancy.”
The GFA is set to stage an Extraordinary General Meeting on November 2nd. This was disclosed via a release from the Guyana Football Federation (GFF).
The federation had appointed the three-member committee of Chairman Trevor Williams, Major Shem Fung and Nolan Lancaster to serve as the IMC of the GFA on July 9th, 2018 for a duration of six months.
Lancaster subsequently tendered his resignation from the entity in October 2018. The IMC was eventually granted an extension by the GFF in February of this year.
