A Guyanese man is now sitting in a New York jail after he was busted at the John F Kennedy International Airport earlier this week on suspicion that he ingested cocaine.
The suspicion of the authorities was right as Kester Johnson later passed out some 25 cocaine filled pellets.
According to the official complaint, seen by this newspaper, Johnson on October 22nd arrived at the airport on a Caribbean Airlines flight number BW 526 from Guyana. He was selected for an enforcement examinations of his luggage by the Customs and Border Protection Officers (CBP) and the search was negative.
“During the baggage examination, the defendant Kester Anfrany Johnson was visibly nervous. His carotid artery was pulsating, he was clenching his jaw, and his hands were shaking. Johnson also provided incomplete responses to questions about his travel plans, For example, Johnson stated that he was planning to stay with his cousin, but was unable to provide a phone number or other background information about his cousin, such as his cousin’s occupation,” the court document said.
Johnson was then escorted into a private search room and a pat down was completed with negative results. And upon questioning, it was determined that the Guyanese had made three trips to the US between 2018 and 2019, and that his tickets for each trip were all purchased in cash a few days prior to travel or on the same day of travel. The court document also revealed that Johnson made inconsistent statements regarding the funding of his trip and the purchases that he planned to make while in the US.
It was then he was presented with an x-ray consent form and he indicated he understood before he signed the form. He was taken to the JFK medical facility, where he was x-rayed by a physician and foreign bodies were detected. Later that morning he passed our several pellets, which when probed found to contain cocaine. In total, he passed out 25 pellets.
Antonino Logrande, the Drug Enforcement Officer who swore to the complaint filed against Johnson, requested that he be dealt with in accordance with the law.
