An accident on Regent Street and Shiv Chanderpaul Drive yesterday left three persons with minor injuries and two vehicles with serious damage.
The drivers of both vehicles were taken into custody by police to assist in the investigation of the accident.
When Stabroek News visited the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) yesterday, Vickram Razack, 22, Navin Tiwari, 24, and another man, also 24, all passengers of the bus, were sitting in the Accident and Emergency section of the hospital waiting to be seen by doctors.
Razack suffered injuries to his left knee, while Tiwari suffered injuries to his mouth which required stitches.
Razack told this newspaper that the bus was traveling west along Regent Street, when the car, traveling north along Shivnarine Chanderpaul Drive, failed to stop, and careened into the bus.
The accident left the front left side of the bus badly damaged, while the right side of the car, near the right front wheel, was bent out of shape.
From the damage both vehicles sustained, it seems that the front section of the motor car made it in front of the bus when the collision occurred. The impact of the collision sent the bus drifting into a drain adjacent to the intersection, which suggests that one of the vehicles, or both, had been moving at a high speed.
