Carlton Bourne, who was recently charged with a series of armed robberies, was yesterday ordered to serve a six-week sentence after he admitted to spitting on and threatening one of his accusers.
Bourne, who was on remand for the armed robbery offences, pleaded guilty to two charges, which were read by Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in Georgetown.
The first charge stated that on October 15th, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, Bourne assaulted Sherry-Ann Persaud. It was further alleged that on the same date and at the same location, he made use of threatening language towards Persaud.
The court heard that Bourne was recently charged with a series of armed robbery offences. On the day in question, Bourne was in Court Six for trial and as he was being escorted back to the prisoner’s docks, he got up and spat on Persaud, who was a witness in the matter. He also threatened to kill her.
The magistrate subsequently sentenced Bourne to six weeks in prison for each of the charges and the sentences will run concurrently.
In August, Bourne was charged for a series of armed robbery offences. He was remanded to prison after denying the charges. Two of the charges read to Bourne on that occasion involved Persaud.
One of the charges read to Bourne states that on August 13th, at Rasville, Georgetown, while armed with a gun, he robbed Persaud of a gold chain, valued $122,000, and an iPhone 7 Plus, valued $221,000.
Another charge stated that same date, at Middle Road, La Penitence, he discharged a loaded firearm to either disfigure or cause grievous bodily harm to Persaud.
