While a lot of familiar faces return to the Guyana team for the Colonial Insurance Super50 tournament next month, Kemol Savory is set to make his senior debut while Jonathan Foo and Ronsford Beaton makes their return to the national team.
West Indies ‘A’ opener, Tagenarine Chanderpaul finished the local 50-overs-a-side Franchise as the leading run-scorer with 342 runs at an average of 57 and will join Chandrapaul Hemraj who enjoyed a fruitful Caribbean Premier League run at the top of the order.
Hemraj has opted to represent Guyana despite being selected for a T10 tournament in Dubai.
Speedster, Ronsford Beaton is on the road to a comeback and has been named in the side after putting the selectors under the microscope with pace and bounce.
He is joined by Nial Smith who has been the stand out seamer of the tournament with 16 wickets at an economy of 5.5.
The local franchise’s Most Valuable Player, Kemol Savory, who scored 336 runs at an average of 48 has received a maiden call up to the side and is joined by Jonathan Foo who scored 333 runs averaging 55.
Leon Johnson returns as the skipper of the side which lost in the final last year along with veteran all-rounder, Christopher Barnwell. Left-arm spin twins, Gudakesh Motie and Veerasammy Permaul, who captained Lower Corentyne to the Franchise League title are mainstays in the side along with off-spinner, Ramaal Lewis and overseas all-rounder, Raymon Reifer. Guyana Amazon Warriors’ duo, Clinton Pestano and Anthony Bramble are also included.
According to the Guyana Cricket Board, Romario Shepherd will be included in the side after completing his international duties.
Sherfane Rutherford, Keemo Paul and Shimron Hetmyer have not been included in the side due to West Indies duties.
Surprisingly, Kevin Sinclair has not been included in the side despite scoring 241 runs at an average of 60, the highest in the tournament and taking 13 wickets with his off-spin.
Excluded from the Jaguars unit also are Ricardo Adams who bagged the most wickets in the local franchise with 20 scalps and Trevon `Bugsy’ Griffith who scored 220 runs along with 11 wickets in the local league. Former West Indies Assistant Coach, Esaun Crandon will take up the role as Head Coach once again and will have the services of Shivnarine Chanderpaul as his deputy.
Guyana Jaguars have not been able to secure the title since 2005 and came close to winning last year but lost to Combined Colleges and Campuses Marooners in the final.
The tournament will run from November 6 to December 1 with all of Guyana’s games being played in Trinidad and Tobago.
