Former national cyclist Jolyon Joseph rolled back the years, producing a vintage performance to snatch a silver medal at the recent International Cycling Union (UCI) 2019 Masters Track Cycling World Championships in Manchester, England.
Competing in the sprint 60-64 years-old at the Manchester velodrome, Joseph, a former Caribbean cycling champion, finished second to Australia’s Gary Mendy.
He also placed fourth in the final of the 60-64 years-old Time Trial behind Mendy who won with a new masters record time, Aron Seiken of the USA and Carlos Daniel Zicavo.
Mendy’s winning time was 33.942s, Seiken’s 35.023 Zicavo of Argentina 36.080.
Joseph’s time was 36.127.
Another Guyanese cyclist Aubrey Gordon reached the Scratch race final but failed to finish. He had suffered a spill whilst training.
Joseph is a two-time Olympian having represented Guyana at the 1980 and 1984 Olympic Games.
