A 24-year-old farmer who was allegedly found with 300 grammes of cannabis when police were attempting to arrest him for threatening a Friendship resident was granted bail on Friday after he denied all the charges against him.
Delon Richardson, of Lot 46 D’Urban Street, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in a Georgetown court, where the charges were read to him.
Two charges alleged that on October 28th, at Friendship, East Bank Demerara, Richardson made use of abusive language towards Arlita Ruffino and on the same date and at the same location he used threatening language towards Ruffino.
The final charge stated that on October 28th at Friendship, Richardson had 300 grammes of cannabis in his possession.
Prosecutor Brian Sukhna said that on the day in question, Ruffino reported to the police that Richardson insulted her and threatened to chop her. Ranks were subsequently dispatched to arrest Richardson, who was found standing in the doorway of the home. It is alleged that when the police officers entered the house, they noticed a black bag on the table and upon further inspection they discovered the suspected narcotics. After his arrest, Sukhna said, Richardson gave a caution statement admitting to ownership of the narcotic.
While Richardson was granted bail in the sum of $50,000 on the narcotics charge, he was asked to post $2,000 bail for the abusive language charge and he was placed on self-bail for the threatening language charge.
The matter was adjourned until November 22nd, when it is to be heard at the Providence Magistrate’s Court.
