Two youths were remanded to prison on Friday after they were charged with the murders of four Corentyne fishermen in a recent pirate attack.

O’Brian Fraser, also known as ‘Shines,’ 21, of Epsom Village, Corentyne, and Anonth Boodrage, also known as ‘Andy,’ 18, of Lot 97 Belvedere Village, Corentyne, appeared before Magistrate Renita Singh at the Albion Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The unrepresented Fraser and Boodrage were charged with the murders of Lamar Petrie, Kawal Kissoon, Vishnu Seeram and Marvin Tamasar during the course of piracy last month.

They were not required to enter a plea to the charge.

Three others have already been charged with the crime. They are: Narine Dhanraj also known as “Chu Chu Boy”, 30 a fisherman of Lot 75 Belvidere Village, Corentyne, Suresh Sundat also known as “Buckman”, 22, a fisherman of Belvidere Squatting Area and Lennox Grimmond, 37, of Cromarty Farm, Corentyne.

The five men will return to the Whim Magistrate’s Court on November 14th, when it is expected that they will be jointly charged with the crime.

On October 5th, four Corentyne fishermen left home to head out to sea to ply their trade on their boat, the SARA 1. However, one week after leaving home, the men’s boat was found aback of Cromarty Village, Corentyne, while the bodies of Petrie, 20, of Lot 9 Miss Phoebe, Port Mourant and Kissoon, 36, of Lot 233 Letter Kenny, Corentyne, were discovered days apart along the Mahaicony and Abary foreshores.

Boat captain Seeram, also known as ‘Kevin,’ 20, of Port Mourant, Corentyne and Marvin Tamasar, also known as ‘Buddy,’ 20, of Lot 305 Port Mourant, Corentyne are still missing and presumed dead.

Police have alleged that two of the men confessed to investigators that they were a part of a five men crew that attacked and murdered the fishermen in the high seas. Based on the confession, the men claimed that initially they had only intended to rob the four fishermen of their catch but after they put up a fight they chopped them about their bodies then tied their hands and feet together and threw them overboard eight miles from the point of attack.

Police had issued wanted bulletins for Fraser and Boodrage, who were arrested last week in Suriname. The men were deported to Guyana earlier this week.
