The inaugural ‘592 Beer Inter-Village Football Festival’ was officially launched on Thursday at the 704 Sports Bar & Lounge on Albert and Lamaha Streets.
The event which is slated to commence on November 17th, will feature 12 teams battling in an initial group format.
Group-A comprises Buxton, Plaisance and Mahaica, with group-B consisting of Friendship, Paradise and Victoria and group-C featuring Brush Dam, Melanie and Ann’s Grove. Group-D contains Annandale, Golden Grove and Beterverwagting [BV].
The winner of each group will advance to the semi-final round. The grand finale is pegged for December 14th.
Winner of the event will pocket $300,000 and the championship trophy, with the second, third and fourth place finishers collecting $150,000, $100,000 and $75,000 respectively and the corresponding accolade.
Individual prizes will also be awarded for the Most Valuable Player [MVP] and the Best Goalkeeper.
592 Brand Manager Seweon McGarrell stated that the company is excited and pleased to be a part of the event, adding that the brand is committed to the development of players and individuals at the grassroot level. He further revealed that the intention is for the event to be an annual affair.
Meanwhile, Director of Sports Christopher Jones commended the organizers and sponsors for staging the tournament as it provides the players with the avenue to develop their respective talents while providing an avenue for social cohesion.
He further added that the National Sports Commission is committed to the development of sports at every level, especially the grassroot and community realms. Similarly, Eon Havercome, Coordinator of the tournament, stated that sport activities are integral in creating positive events for youngsters, adding that the event was conceptualized with the intention of resuscitating the traditional rivalries that existed between the respective communities.
Also, Fariz Mohammed, Brand Coordinator of Rush Energy Drink and I-Cool Water disclosed that the brands are elated to sponsor the event, adding that the tournament will be used to sensitize the populace about the products.
Among the other sponsors of the event are Bakewell Guyana Incorporated and the Colin Talbot Construction Services.
