A collaboration between the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) and Guyana Beverage Company through its Busta brand has launched the 16th edition of the Berbice County’s Champion of Champions First-Division 40-over competition.

The deal was inked on Friday in the presence of members of the media at the beverage company’s Diamond New Scheme, East Bank Demerara location.

President of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB), who also functions as the Chief Executive Officer/Secretary of RHTY&SC Hilbert Foster thanked the company for their longstanding partnership that is geared towards the development of sports in the county.

Foster said that the collaboration has been very productive over the years and together has made a difference in the lives of many despite the absence of support from the Guyana Cricket Board since 2007. Speaking on the history of the competition over the years, Foster pointed out that it has grown into the premier tournament at the highest level of Berbice cricket and will bowl off tomorrow.

The competition will be played on a knockout basis and feature 11 of the best teams in the County. Defending champions, RHTYSC Thunderbolt Flour have drawn a first round bye. Foster divulged that there will be numerous players who have represented Guyana and the West Indies featuring in the tournament as well as some of the most promising players coming out of the county. According to him, the Berbice Umpires Association will provide umpires for the tournament which is set to be completed by December 20.

Meanwhile, Brand Manager Raymond Govinda said this is another example of Guyana Beverage Company’s commitment to sports development in Guyana.

Govinda added the company is happy to once again be associated but was more pleased to give back to the communities as part of their social responsibilities and help curb crime while meaningfully occupy the time of the youths in Guyana.
