A complete bowling performance by former West Indies U-19 leg-spinner, Amir Khan spurred Everest to an innings and 10 runs victory over Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) on Saturday in the GISE/Star Party Rentals/ Trophy Stall first-division two-day tournament.
Playing at home, Everest posted 256 in their first innings with GNIC replying with 96-4 before close of play on the first day.
GNIC were bowled out in less than an hour on the second day, rolling over for 130 in their first innings. Everest then enforced the follow-on and dismantled the visitors for 117, 30 minutes before tea.
Khan returned on the final day with four wickets to quickly dispose of the batting attack of GNIC and end with 8-31.
Premchand Sookdeo (32), Quacy Richardson (26) and Dwain Dick (19), both of whom were dismissed late on day one were the principal scorers while no batsman found any momentum on the final day.
Returning for their second innings, GNIC looked to press on with Richardson and Jermaine Grovesnor adding 66 for the opening stand before Richardson was given caught behind for 36. Grovesnor carried on to make 26 while skipper, Dexter Solomon’s 33 was the only resistance from GNIC.
Khan went to work on the outclassed batting line up to take 7-39. He was supported by off-spinner, Richie Looknauth, who followed up his top score of 70 in Everest’s innings to take 3-34.
