Pritipaul Mohan, a 62-year-old man charged with raping a 13-year-old girl, will have to face another trial after a jury failed to reach a verdict yesterday afternoon on the evidence led against him.
Following two hours of deliberation by jurors at the High Court in Georgetown, Mohan, who was on trial before Justice Simone Morris-Ramlall, learned that there was no decision on the charge against him.
As a result, Justice Morris-Ramlall notified the man that he will face another trial at the next practicable sitting of the Demerara Assizes and will remain on bail until that time.
It is alleged that Mohan, between November 1st and November 30th, 2015, at Kitty, Georgetown, raped the 13-year-old.
The man allegedly forced himself on to the child after she went to Mohan’s home to collect something. It has been reported that he had held a knife to the teen’s neck while he assaulted her.
