A two-day-old baby boy died on Monday morning, hours after he reportedly fell out of a hammock at his Morabisi Creek, Mouth Island, Issano, Middle Mazaruni River home.
The dead child has been identified as Lance Douglas. He was self-delivered at home on Saturday morning.
Stabroek News understands that enquiries revealed on Sunday afternoon, the dead child mother, Vinese Sutton, 29, tied a hammock in the house to rock him to sleep.
During the process, one of the ropes came loose causing the child to fall to the ground.
However, he was not taken to seek medical attention since he appeared uninjured.
On Monday morning, Sutton was attending to her new-born baby when he suddenly became motionless.
His body was taken to the Issano health outpost where he was pronounced dead.
Discoloration was seen to his shoulder and back.
An investigation has since been launched by the police and arrangements are being made to have his body transported to Bartica for an autopsy.
