A youth accused of stabbing his co-worker with a broken beer bottle was yesterday remanded to prison after he was charged with the crime.

Vivian Christian, 21, denied the charge that on November 7th, 2019, at Stonehill Backdam, Cuyuni, he unlawfully and maliciously inflicted grievous bodily harm upon Rajesh Lall.

Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield objected to bail after the charge was read by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court One.

He opposed bail being granted for several reasons, including the fact that Lall suffered multiple cuts across his body and remains hospitalised.

On the day in question, he said, there was a misunderstanding that resulted in Christian breaking a beer bottle and attacking Lall. Mansfield said during the attack, Lall sustained multiple stab wounds about his body. Lall was taken to the Stonehill hospital and was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he is currently admitted.

The magistrate subsequently remanded Christian to prison and told him to make his next court appearance at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on November 21st.
