Guyana’s Andrew King reigned supreme in the Group 4 category but 16 year-old Zane Maloney stole the show after starring in the SR3 Radical class yesterday at the South Dakota Circuit where the GMR&SC’s Clash of Champions was staged.
Racing fans left the Timehri venue satisfied after the 30-race programme was concluded but they were buzzing about the daredevilry of the teen from Barbados.
Maloney, the current British F4 Champion, thrilled the fans and gave them their monies worth after emphatically racing away with all three of the radical races. The teenage speed demon started on pole and won the first race three seconds ahead of second place Luke Bhola of Trinidad & Tobago (T&T).
The Barbadian then started at the back of the pack in race two due to the reverse grid rules of the Radicals’ Cup but by the fourth of the 15-lap race, much to the surprise of the fans and competitors alike, the racing prodigy was burning rubber in first place after demonstrating some elite driving skills.
And as expected, Maloney won the third race, his dominance being underlined by lapping a few of his competitors in the
process.
In the Group Four class, 2017 and 2018 CMRC, champion King showed his brilliance with a clean sweep of the class despite some fight from Zane’s uncle, Mark Maloney, and local upstart, Stefan Jeffrey.
Sulieman Esuf of Barbados swept Group Three while his brother Ahmed picked up one win in Group Two after Guyana’s Rameez Mohamed, who won the first race and looked set to sweep the class was derailed in the race two after being hit on the bumper.
Meanwhile, in the two-wheeled classes, the Superstock and Supersport as expected, the riders of Team Mohamed’s remained unbeaten with British riders Richard Cooper (Supersport) and Daniel Linfoot (Superstock) sweeping their respective classes while Harry Truelove (Superstock) was second only to Linfoot.
The highly anticipated Choke Starlet Cup saw Motilall Deodass picking up one win, a second and a third place finish yesterday, results which may see him nosing ahead of reigning champion Anand Ramchand for the overall championship and $500,000 first prize.
All results so far are unofficial and the full list of official results is to be published.
The Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) were commended for the stellar job they did once again in the November International race meet.
President of the Club, Rameez Mohamed, expressed his gratitude for the multitude of fans who have continued to support the club’s events all year and then thanked the sponsors that are committed to seeing the motorsport evolve in Guyana.
B.M Soat Auto Sales, Mohamed’s Enterprise, KFC, Tropical Shipping, Valvoline, ANSA McAl, Motul, ExxonMobil, Japarts and Air Services were named as the major sponsors of the event.
