Police are still on the hunt for the two suspects who fatally stabbed Venezuelan national Woillian Fores on the Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD) Public Road early Monday morning.
Region Four Commander Senior Superintendent Kurleigh Simon, when contacted last evening, told Stabroek News that investigators yesterday obtained several additional statements as the investigation into the matter continues. Simon added that the police are still making efforts to apprehend the suspects, who remained on the run up to last evening.
Fores, a resident of Post Office Street, Grove, EBD, was stabbed twice during the incident which occurred around 1:05am on Monday. He was rushed to the Diamond Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The police had said that enquiries revealed that the suspects, who were on bicycles, approached Fores who was sitting on the western side of the public road.
One of the suspects, who was brandishing a knife, demanded that Fores hand over his belongings, the police said. A scuffle ensued between Fores and the bandits during which he was stabbed.
Residents in the area had told Stabroek News that they learnt of the incident hours after it occurred. Many said they did not know Fores.
Stabroek News had learnt that Fores’ family reside in Venezuela. Reports are that he came here to seek employment.
