At least 25 villages in Region Nine are participating in the 2019 Rupununi Expo, which commenced yesterday at the St Ignatius village.
The two-day event, which is hosted annually by the Rupununi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, will be concluding today.
The event seeks to showcase and promote the economic potential of the Rupununi Region and highlight the unique talent and cultures of the indigenous peoples.
The participating villages include Parashara, Aishalton, Annai, Quatata, Karaudarnau and Quiko, which are showcasing their agriculture and craft products. Cultural performances by groups from across the Rupununi were the main entertainment during the opening ceremony last night.
Prizes for outstanding products in the areas of craft, processed foods, agro produce, tourism, local juices and innovative initiatives will be presented today. The new Miss Rupununi 2019 will be also be announced and crowned today.
