In the lone match of the Georgetown Cricket Association/New Building Society second division 40-over tournament this weekend, Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) handed Diplomats a 202-run defeat yesterday.
Playing in a mismatch at the GCC ground prefaced by early morning showers, the hosts won the toss and opted to bat. GCC posted 246 all out in their full quota while bowling Diplomats out for an embarrassing 44 in 17 overs.
GCC’s batting centered around Deonarine Seegobin, who made use of a promotion to the top of the order with a fluent half century.
Seegobin cracked seven fours and one six in his top score of 70 before getting a thick edge that ballooned to the fielder between fly slip and gully.
Seegobin constructed a formidable start with fellow opener Winston Forrestor, who contributed 21, including three boundaries, to their 51-run partnership.
GCC also capitalised on cameos from Timothy McAlmont (38) and Carlos LaRose (26).
Diplomats’ captain Nigel Simpson was the pick of the bowlers with three scalps while Adrian Foster picked up two wickets.
In reply, left-arm spinner Stephon Wilson continued his impressive run with the ball to take 6-11. Wilson spun webs around the hapless batting order including three wickets in his final over to finish proceedings.
Wilson was supported by seamer Bernard Bailey with 2-18 as no batsman reached double figures and extras, at nine, being the top score.
