(Trinidad Guardian) Police are investigating the shooting of another police officer in one day.
According to police reports, 31-year-old Jewel Wharton-Prescott of Arima was shot in Malabar on Saturday night.
The officer, who is attached to the Adjutant SRP Office located at Riverside Plaza, Port-of-Spain, was off-duty at the time.
Police say the incident occurred around 10:20 pm, as Wharton-Prescott was driving a white Corolla in Malabar.
She was accompanied by 36-year-old Ayanna Mc Eachnie-Attle.
Reports indicate that as they were proceeding east along Lennox Yearwood Carriageway near Bellbird Avenue, Malabar, a vehicle pulled alongside them and the occupants opened fire.
Wharton-Prescott was shot in the abdomen and left hand while McEachnie-Attle was shot in the right leg.
They were both taken to the Arima Health Facility where they were treated before being transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.
Hours before this incident, another off-duty police officer was shot in Arima.
Cpl Fox who is assigned to the North Eastern Division Emergency Response Patrol was attacked in a robbery in the Pinto district on Saturday morning.
Reports indicate Cpl Fox had gone to a mechanic shop at Righteous Lane, Pinto when he was ambushed by three men, all of whom are known to the police.
It was reported that during the incident, Fox was shot in the hand and stomach. They also took his gold chain.
Fox was taken to the Arima Health Facility and later transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where he was treated and warded.
Acting on information, officers went to a house close to where the incident occurred and detained one man.
Following a search of the suspect’s house, officers reportedly retrieved a firearm.
Up to late Saturday, officers continued to search for the two other suspects. Police said that arrests are imminent.
