A tropical wave is sweeping across Trinidad and Tobago from this morning, bringing heavy rainfall, gusty winds and street or flash flooding.
The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) said the adverse weather alert is now yellow.
This means that beginning at 9 a.m. today, “heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected in isolated areas of Trinidad and to a lesser extent over Tobago with accumulated rainfall approximating 20-25 mm”.
The ODPM added: ”Winds likely to gust in excess of 60 kph at times. These conditions can lead to localised flooding in some areas.”
The Trinidad and Tobago Weather Centre made similar predictions, saying the weather is associated with the passing of a tropical wave.
“This tropical wave is forecast to move across the Southern Windwards Tuesday into Wednesday, bringing a surge of low-level winds and locally heavy showers and thunderstorms to Trinidad and Tobago. Isolated severe weather possible, with thunderstorms favouring Trinidad,” it stated.
Conditions are expected to improve by this evening.
