Linden’s Royals basketball team, were crowned the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation [GABF] 3×3 U18 champions after they defeated Blazers Sunday at the Burnham Court, Middle and Carmichael Streets.
Royals secured the title following a 15-10 victory over Blazers. Royals will now represent Guyana at the 2020 International Basketball Foundation [IBF] 3×3 Championship in Guadeloupe which is set to be held from February 27th-March 3rd.
Tournament coordinator, Junior Hercules, said, “I was impressed with the level of competition specific to the category, I felt the best teams advanced to the semi-finals. The expectation was that the team which eventually would have probably won because they were a balanced team.”
He added, “However Royals wanted it and that is a testament of the format. You are playing one quarter, just 10 minutes on intense play and Royals were consistent, they played like they had nothing to lose and was the pride of Region.” In the earlier semi-final round, Royals defeated Kwakwani Stars 14-11 while Blazers crushed PC Stars 11-2.
