Days after a couple was arrested following the discovery of several items including an AK-47 assault rifle in Sophia, the police yesterday issued a wanted bulletin for a third suspect in relation to the same find.
In the bulletin issued last evening, the police said that Steve Richard Bacchus, 27, whose last known addresses are ‘E’ North Sophia and Lot 71 Block ‘F’ North Sophia is wanted for questioning in relation to possession of a firearm, ammunition and narcotics committed on Monday at North Sophia.
Stabroek News had reported that the items were discovered after the police conducted an hours-long operation in the community. Two persons: a construction worker and his reputed wife were taken into custody and are assisting with investigations.
A police press statement had said that during the operation which commenced around 10.30 pm a quantity of local and foreign currencies, two unlicensed firearms, an AK-47 assault rifle and a pistol, 62 rounds of live ammunition and more than 32 kilograms of suspected cannabis were found.
The operation was conducted by ranks stationed at the Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters under the command of a Superintendent.
Crime Chief (ag) Michael Kingston recently told Stabroek News that the police are pursuing all angles in the investigation which he had described as “deep”.
Kingston further noted that ballistics tests are also being conducted on the AK-47 assault rifle to determine whether it was used to commit any crime.
