The trial of Samuel Allen, who is accused of killing Brazilian miner Joao De Souza during a robbery at Arakaka, Region One in 2014, commenced on Monday.
It is alleged that on April 2nd, 2014 at Five Miles, Arakaka, Allen murdered De Souza during the course or furtherance of a robbery. Allen was 18 years old at the time.
The case, which is being tried before Justice Jo-Ann Barlow, began on Monday with State Prosecutor Sarah Martin calling several witnesses to present evidence in the case. The witnesses were also subject to cross-examination by Allen’s attorney, Maxwell McKay.
According to reports, De Souza was walking along a passageway heading back to his mining camp when Allen allegedly followed the miner with the intention of robbing him and dealt him a blow to the head with a hammer.
The trial is expected to continue today.
