Aundre Singh, who is one of two men recently sentenced for the possession of over 12 pounds of cocaine at Rupert Craig Highway last year, was yesterday sentenced to one year in prison after he pleaded guilty to illegal possession of cocaine found at his home subsequent to his arrest for the prior offence.

Singh was on trial before Magistrate Rhondell Weaver in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts. During the continuation of his trial, Singh indicated to the Magistrate that he would like to plead guilty to the charge, which stated that on October 3rd, at Diamond, East Bank Demerara, he had in his possession 6.6 grammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Weaver subsequently sentenced him to one year in jail for the offence. The sentence will run concurrently with the three-and-half-year sentence which was imposed after Singh and another, Clifford Gouveia, 60, were found guilty of trafficking over 12 pounds last year. Oneal Charan, who was also charged with the same offence, was released after he was found not guilty of the crime.

Singh was also charged with possession of 13 rounds of .32 ammunition and eight rounds of 9 mm ammunition and the possession of two guns—.32 and .38-calibre weapons— without being the holder of a firearm licence, on the same date and at the same location. His trial for those charges will recommence next year.

The Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit had stated that Singh was the driver of a white Premio, PSS 8977, with Charan as a passenger, while Gouveia was the driver of PLL 5213, who was behind Singh’s vehicle on the highway.

After observing the cars, ranks intercepted the transfer of a box containing five suspected bricks of cocaine and beauty soaps between the cars. As a result, a total of 5.582 kilogrammes of suspected cocaine had been intercepted during the transfer.

After Singh was arrested, a search was conducted at his Diamond, East Bank Demerara home, where the 6.6 grammes of cocaine along with the firearm and ammunition were found.
