The Buxton Community Centre Ground will be a hive of activity this evening when the inaugural 592 Beer Inter-Village Football Festival continues with a doubleheader.
The opening match at 19:00hrs will pit undefeated Beterverwagting (BV) against Annandale. The match will be the first for Annandale in the tournament. On the other hand, it will be the second fixture for BV who defeated Golden Grove 1-0 in their previous outing.
Meanwhile, the feature clash will pit traditional giant Victoria against Friendship. Victoria will be desperate for a positive result following their opening 3-1 loss to Paradise. For Friendship, the match will be their first of the tournament.
The event will continue on Sunday at the same venue with another two matches. Brusche Dam opposes Ann’s Grove at 19:00hrs while the feature matchup will witness Mahaica engaging Buxton from 21:00hrs. The event features 12 teams battling in an initial group format. Group A comprises Buxton, Plaisance and Mahaica, with Group B consisting of Friendship, Paradise and Victoria; and Group C featuring Brusche Dam, Melanie and Ann’s Grove. Group D contains Annandale, Golden Grove and BV. The winner of each group and the respective runners-up will progress to the quarterfinals. The grand finale is pegged for December 14th.
Winner of the event will pocket $300,000 and the championship trophy, with the second, third and fourth place finishers collecting $150,000, $100,000 and $75,000 respectively and the corresponding accolade. Individual prizes will also be awarded for the Most Valuable Player and the Best Goalkeeper.
