Yesterday, a Prison Officer attached to the Lusignan Prison was searched when he reported for duty and found with a quantity of suspected marijuana hidden in his underwear.
The Police have since been called in to investigate the matter. A release from the Prisons yesterday said that this is the second officer within three days to be held in similar circumstances.
The release said that the young officer with eight months service said he felt pressured by an inmate’s repeated request for him to bring same.
“The officer said he would like to warn other officers to make use of the systems in place to report such issues so that they can get the needed help. The Prison administration will continue the efforts to have all such persons outfitted with the uniform of our inmate population”, the release said.
