Albion Cricket Club, Sunday defeated Rose Hall Canje by 223 runs in Zone 11 of the Berbice Cricket Board/ New Building Society 40-overs second division competition.
The hosts won the toss on a steaming hot day and opted to bat first, piling up 318 all out in 34.5 overs.
They, then restricted Rose Hall Canje to 95-8 from their allotted overs.
Albion’s imposing batting order got the better of the Canje players with opener, Adrian Sukwah leading the charge with a blistering 72.
Sukwah lost his opening partner, Jeetendra Outar for just one with the score on 21.
Thereafter, he clobbered nine fours and two sixes while adding 95 for the second wicket with Ritish Umroa.
Umroa’s innings of 64 included seven boundaries.
Both batsmen were dismissed by B. Bhopal who ended with 2-63.
Antonio February also cashed in with a half century, hammering five boundaries during his knock of 56 before he was undone by National youth female spinner, Ashmini Munisar (2-53). Raymond Vankenie was the pick of the bowlers, returning 2-40.
Rose Hall Canje also gifted Albion 48 extras, 30 of which were wides and 12 no balls.
In reply, Albion’s reputation of producing effective spinners was underlined by former national youth left-arm orthodox, Kelvin Umroa (3-17) and upcoming talent, Gourav Ramesh (3-21), the pair strangling the Rose Hall Canje batsmen.
Like the visitors, Albion were sloppy with the bowling, which gave Rose Hall Canje 23 extras.
Only Vankenie with 23 not out and Totaram Persaud with 22 reached double figures.
