John Holder, the police constable charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice in the attempted murder case involving Maryann Daby, was yesterday told that he has to lead a defence.
Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus told Holder and his attorney, Stephen Rodney, that she had considered the case made by the prosecution and found that there was sufficient evidence against the accused and as a result she called upon him to lead his defence.
He is expected to do so on January 6th, when the matter is to be called again.
Holder faces a charge that between August 10th, 2018 and October 2nd, 2018, at Georgetown, he attempted to pervert the course of justice by deviating from his statement in the case of the police versus Maryann Daby.
Daby was charged with the attempted murder of Constable 24785 Christopher Kissoon. However, that matter was dismissed in July after the police failed to prove their case.
Holder, who had been a key witness in the trial against Daby, was subsequently charged.
Senior Magistrate Leron Daly, who had presided over the Preliminary Inquiry into the charge against Daby, had ordered an investigation after Holder, during cross-examination by Daby’s attorney, Mark Waldron, made allegations against a police rank.
