Last Sunday, in the Berbice Cricket Board/ Trophy Stall Under-13 semi-final, Albion Cricket Club and Rose Hall Town Poonai earned victories over Achievers and Rose Hall Canje respectively and will clash in Saturday’s final.
At Hampshire Ground, RHT Poonai inserted Canje and did well to restrict them to 107-8 from 40 overs after they were 60 without loss. R. Ramdehol made 19 while Zadeem La Rose top scored with a well-played 50.
Spinners, Tyrese Smartt (3-26) and Imran Mohamad (3-21) were the principal wicket-takers. With 108 required to earn first innings point, last year’s runner up reached 131-6 from their quota with Tyron Smartt unbeaten on 63 and Khemraj Tika supporting with 16. La Rose took 3-31.
In Canje’s second innings, they reached 61-2 with Aaron Craig scoring 29 and Deeraj Ramjit taking 2-19 before bad light stopped play prematurely.
Meanwhile, over at Bush Lot, West Berbice, despite a three-hour late start due to rain, Albion took first strike and were skittled out for 77 in 29.4 overs. Afraz Budhoo top scored with 36 which featured seven boundaries. T. Isaacs took 4-20 and was supported by T. Ramcharran with 3-14.
In reply, Achievers were routed for a disappointing 27 as only E. Rogers (10) reached double figures. Budhoo bagged 3-10 while Devin Lalbehari and Ritesh Nathoor took two wickets each.
Albion batted once again and reached 65-4 prior to bad light halting proceedings with Budhoo capping off a fine all-round performance with 16 while Lalbehari and Nathaniel Chinapen scored 17 runs each, A. Doobay took 2-11.
