The Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the attempted murder charge against Renard Caesar and LaShawn Lewis, who are accused of attempting to kill ex-policeman Teon Allen called ‘Spoil child,’ is expected to commence in January.
Caesar and Lewis were not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on October 5th, at La Penitence Market, Georgetown, in the company of others and with intent to commit murder, they discharged rounds from loaded firearms toward Allen.
During yesterday’s court proceeding in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court One, the duo was granted bail in the sum of $500,000 each on the condition that they report to the Major Crimes Unit at the Criminal Investigation Department headquarters every week. Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan also imposed a curfew on the duo stating that they are not to be seen outdoors from 7pm to 7am.
Police Prosecutor Neville Jeffers told the court that an investigation revealed that the witnesses, who indicated that they were afraid of testifying against the two men, are “indeed under threats” hence he was advised to proceed with witnesses that are available. He said nine witnesses are set to testify against the two men on the next occasion. He objected to bail being granted.
The magistrate adjourned the matter until January 6th, 2020, when the PI is expected to commence.
According to police, Allen was purchasing vegetables at La Penitence Market when a black car drove by and one of the occupants pointed at
him. According to the information received, three persons, including Caesar, who was armed with a gun, exited the car and discharged several rounds at Allen, who sought refuge after which Caesar and his two accomplices escaped. Caesar and Lewis were later arrested and charged.
