The trial for the Pike Street, Kitty man who was charged with murdering a vagrant in 2017 outside a Lamaha Street nightclub commenced on Tuesday at the High Court in Georgetown.

Shawn Harris is charged with murdering Sunil Singh, also known as ‘Grey,’ on February 5th, 2017, at Owen Street, Kitty.

On Tuesday, the trial commenced before Justice Jo-Ann Barlow and a 12-member jury. State representatives Sarah Martin and Shawnette Austin first called a police photographer to the witness box to present his evidence. Detective Constable Collis Duke was called to the stand to present and identify photographs he would have taken of the crime scene. The witness was also asked to describe each photo to the court.

The said photos were also examined by Harris’ attorney, Maxwell McKay. The trial is set to continue.

According to previous reports, Singh was fatally stabbed after he attempted to rescue an employee of a Lamaha Street nightclub from an attack by three men. On the day in question, the said club was closed as three persons attempted to enter but were prevented from doing so by the said employee. An argument ensued between the employee and the three men, which resulted in him being stabbed.

It was further reported that Singh intervened and tried to make peace when the suspect who stabbed the employee dealt Singh a blow to his head. Singh subsequently ran as the suspect pursued him and eventually stabbed him multiple times at Owen Street, Kitty.
