Dear Editor,
The Ministry of Public Infrastructure (MoPI) wishes to respond to an article published by Stabroek News on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 under the headline ‘Aishalton residents say rotting bridge putting travelers in danger.’
The Ministry would like to make it clear that it does not bear any responsibility for the aforementioned bridge under its Hinterland Department. According to the Ministry’s Senior Hinterland Engineer, this bridge falls under the purview of the Regional Democratic Council in Region Nine.
Additionally, our Senior Hinterland Engineer made contact with Region Nine’s Regional Executive Officer when it was communicated that a contract was already awarded for the construction of the Wardapau Bridge in Deep South Rupununi which links South Rupununi with the town of Lethem.
Based on the information received, construction works are expected to commence soon on the bridge, according to the Ministry’s Region 9 Engineer. The Ministry therefore requests that the media makes contact with Region Nine’s Regional Democratic Council for more information.
Yours faithfully,
Krest Cummings
Senior Public Relations Officer
Ministry of Public Infrastructure
