Vasheer Khan, a man who admitted to assaulting and calling his sister-in-law an offensive name, was recently fined a total of $20,000.
Khan, 33, was also granted $10,000 bail on a third charge, using abusive language to the woman, which he denied.
Khan appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly on November 29th and he pleaded guilty to two charges and was fined $10,000 for each.
The first of the two charges Khan admitted to stated that on November 27th at Shell Road, Kitty, Georgetown, he unlawfully assaulted Neesha Khan. Additionally he was charged with calling Ms. Khan a name other than her own, with intent to offend or corrupt her public morals.
Finally, he was charged with using abusive language toward Ms. Khan, which he denied.
Ms. Khan, who was present when the matter was heard at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, told the court that she is the wife of the defendant’s brother. She further stated that she is constantly in arguments with the defendant, who she claimed refuses to let her be at peace. “Anybody who comes to my house, he telling them bad things about me,” she told the court. She also said that the man would call her offensive things and tell people, especially men who pass her home, these offensive things about her.
However, Khan told the court that while he admitted to calling her offensive names, he never used abusive language towards her.
The magistrate, after listening to both of the Khans, fined the defendant $10,000 for each of the two charges he admitted to. She explained to him that if he did not pay the fine, he would have to serve two months in prison. Lastly, she granted him bail in the sum of $10,000 for the last charge, which he denied. He was told to return to the court on December 16th for his next hearing.
