A resident of Georgetown is currently in the custody of the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) after he was caught trying to smuggle a quantity of narcotics into the country on Friday.
According to a press release sent by CANU last evening, the Norton Street, Georgetown resident was arrested and placed in custody after a search conducted by CANU ranks at Springlands, Corentyne, Berbice, revealed that he was in possession of 254 grammes of crystal methamphetamine and 56 grammes of ecstasy pills, equivalent to approximately 100 pills.
The man, who was returning to Guyana from Suriname, was a passenger of the Golden Groves Speed Boat Service. The narcotics were said to have been found in clothing, which was in a haversack he was carrying.
