Albion wrapped up an innings and 216-run victory over Rose Hall Canje before lunch while Young Warriors beat West Berbice by 10 wickets on the final day yesterday of the Berbice Cricket Board/ Banks Beer two-day first division tournament.

Resuming their second innings on 1-1 after being bowled out for 70 in their first innings, replying to Albion’s 350-6 declared, Rose Hall Canje were dismissed for 64 all out in 35.2 overs, 30 minutes before lunch at the Rose Hall Community Center Ground.

Leading the charge for Albion’s traditional spin heavy bowling unit was leg-spinner, Devindra Bishoo who snatched 5-11 to complement his 4-6 in the first innings.

Bishoo exploited the turn and bounce on a hard surface under cool conditions while Rose Hall Canje failed to aid their effort mostly through poor shot selection.

Skipper of the losing side, Ameer Rahaman admitted the team still functioned in a T20 mode and indicated that the plan was to survive the day and play to a draw.

Rahaman added it was a learning experience for the side since not much could have been done against what he called, “a national bowling line up.”

Bishoo was supported by left-arm spinners, Veerasammy Permaul with 3-42, Gudakesh Motie (1-5) and Kelvin Umroa (1-1).

The leg-spinner told Stabroek Sport, “it was happy to win, playing back two-day cricket in Berbice is very nice, over the last few years we didn’t have any cricket especially now coming back from injury, I feel good…”

Bishoo declared that taking a five-wicket haul as well as four wickets in the first innings is always a good feeling and that it showed positive signs of his recovering from the injury.

Rose Hall Canje enjoyed limited success with Zahir Hussain top scoring with 19. His innings featured three consecutive sixes off of Permaul but was bowled the following delivery, attempting to slug a fourth six.

Meanwhile at Cumberland, Young Warriors resumed on 144-5, replying to West Berbice’s 124 first innings score. They pressed on to make 240 all out in 53 overs. Carl Gilgeous got off the mark on the new day and carried on to make 38, with four boundaries. He added 53 for the sixth wicket with Suresh Dhanai (30).   Leon Andrews, however proved to be a spoke in Young Warriors’ proverbial wheel by taking 6-34 while Jayden Samuels returned 3-8.

Andrews returned to notch up a brilliant 119 as West Berbice piled on 187 all out in 45 overs, setting the hosts 72 for victory in 21 overs.

Andrews, 24, once again showed his grit with a dozen fours and four sixes, mostly favouring the long on and mid-wicket region before trickling an edge to a diving Gilgeous behind the stumps off of Dhanai (4-49).

While the left-hander played with class, only Renson Mitchell supported him at the wicket with a composed 33, decorated with three fours and one six.

Left-arm spinner, Trevon Stanislaus, who bagged five wickets in the first innings, picked up 3-61 while Ricardo Ramdehol returned 2-29.

In the chase, Young Warriors’ opening pair of Alex Algoo and Ramdehol took the fight to the West Berbice seamers with boundaries rocketing through the covers as they reached 75 without loss in 10.3 overs.

Algoo raced to 30, hitting three fours and two sixes, one of which was flicked into square leg to end the match while Ramdehol caressed five boundaries in his knock of 32.
