Dear Editor,
There is a letter in the Stabroek News from someone who labels himself as Mark Devonish, who chose to call on the PPP to explain how they will reopen the closed sugar estates without damaging the economy (SN: 10/12/19). I think if this writer is a real person, it is a fair question, which I am certain, the PPP can capably respond to. But I have no obligation to an unknown writer in this theater of Guyanese politics to offer any explanation until I can verify his or her identity. I communicate with real people; period!
This Mark Devonish can very well be a Russian bot for all I know or a Chinese computer algorithm. If an Aubrey Norton or another known entity posed these questions to me, it would be remiss of me not to respond, but in this case, I cannot respond to an unknown entity in violation of my principles. I communicate exclusively with real people; not phantoms.
In addition to the above, I wish to draw to the attention of the Editor that this unknown entity took the liberty to mind my personal business and I wonder what authority was used to proceed with such a course of action.
Let us get down to some facts that need to get out of the way for transparency purposes:
1. I never ran for any office on a PPP ticket. I actually ran in the 2011 elections on an AFC ticket and resigned publicly from that party in March 2014 for which I received a letter from the then General Secretary thanking me for my service. So if I am to be accused of being politically involved, the record speaks to the fact that I was a candidate for the AFC in the 2011 general elections.
2. I am not running for any office in these 2020 elections.
3. In 2015, I did present Mr Joe Harmon with a turnaround plan, which I subsequently presented at two conferences. Much damage was done since to the sugar belt but I am of the belief that with some modification, two of the four shuttered sugar estates can re-open in 2020 with minimal harm done to the national economy.
4. I worked at Barclays Corporate in the UK for several years as a Turnaround Specialist in the Restructuring Team during the economic recession when President Obama and Prime Minister Brown bailed out the banks and the automakers with a combined disbursement of taxpayers’ funds totalling more than US$1.5 trillion. The experiences gained during that endeavour, especially in turning around the failing companies in the agriculture and fisheries sector in the North of England, were vital ingredients to the turnaround plan I prepared.
In a subsequent letter to the press for the consumption of the Guyanese people, I shall re-state some of the pertinent points I made in 2015.
Until such time that I can confirm the identity of this unknown entity with the kind courtesy of your pages, this is my last correspondence with him or her. If he or she is real, then I am granting permission to the Editor of Stabroek News to share my email with this entity so I can do my due diligence.
Yours faithfully,
Sasenarine Singh
