A 47-year-old minibus conductor is now a remanded prisoner on an attempted murder charge after he allegedly stabbed his partner during an argument, in which she was also choked and burned with boiling water.
Raul Thomas of Lot 365 North Ruimveldt was not required to plead to the indictable charge after it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court One.
The charge states that on December 8th, 2019, at North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, with intent to commit murder, Thomas inflicted grievous bodily harm upon the woman.
According to Prosecutor Neville Jeffers, the woman is currently hospitalised at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH). He said last Saturday around 8 pm, the couple had an argument after Thomas accused the woman of having an affair with another person. During the argument, Thomas allegedly doused her with a pot of boiling water after which he choked her and stabbed her with a knife.
According to Jeffers, the woman managed to escape but collapsed as she was leaving the house. She was subsequently picked up by neighbours, who carried her to the GPH. The attack was reported and Thomas was arrested.
Thomas was remanded to prison until January 3rd, when the case is expected to be heard at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court Five.
