A Georgetown couple, accused of dragging a neighbour out of his apartment and then stabbing him with a knife, were remanded to prison yesterday after they were jointly charged with the crime.
Kemo Harlequin, 28, and Kenese Bobb, 24, were not required to plead to the indictable charge of unlawful wounding after it was read to them by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court One.
The charge states that the couple on December 10th, at D’Urban Backlands, Georgetown, unlawfully and maliciously wounded Jermaine Sampson with intent to maim, disable, disfigure or cause grievous bodily harm.
According to Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield, Harlequin and Sampson had a misunderstanding and Bobb intervened, after which the couple went into Sampson’s house and threw a glass bottle at him. He attempted to escape from the couple but they allegedly dragged him down the stairs and dealt him several stabs about his body.
The couple were represented by attorney Paul Fung-A-Fat, who told the court that they are parents to two children.
A tearful Bobb told the court that she was only trying to part the fight. “I was only trying to be the peacemaker,” she said.
The Chief Magistrate subsequently refused to grant the couple bail and told them to make their next court appearance on January 2nd, 2020.
