Two blockbuster TY20 cricket finals set for the ancient county today and tomorrow has been postponed, the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) stated yesterday.
According to President of the BCB, Hilbert Foster, the Ivan Madray and the Busta Champion-of-Champions T20 finals have been postponed because of the seasonal rainfall.
The Albion Community Centre Cricket Club and the Rose Hall Town Namilco Thunderbolts were expected to lock horns on both days in both finals.
The 16th Busta Champion-of -Champions 40-over first-division tournament was set for today at the Area ‘H’ Ground while the Ivan Madray T20 final was billed for the Number 69 Vikings Ground tomorrow.
In the 40-overs-a-side tournament, Albion earned a bye to the final after defeating last year’s finalist Young Warrriors while Thunderbolts booked their spot with a victory over Tucber Park while in the shorter format, Thunderbolts defeated Young Warriors to earn their finals berth. Albion once again drew a bye to the final after defeating Tucber Park by 114 runs in the previous round.
Madray was the third Berbician to play Test cricket for the West Indies after the legendary John Trim and Berbice’s greatest-ever cricketer, Rohan Babulall Kanhai. Madray, a product of the historic Port Mourant Cricket Club, played two Test matches in 1958 before migrating to the United Kingdom. He died on April 23, 2009 at the age of 74.
