The Inaugural ‘592 Beer Inter-Village Football Festival’, which resumes today with quarterfinal action will officially conclude on January 1st 2020.
This was disclosed by tournament organizer Eon Havercome during a press briefing Friday at the National Gymnasium.
Havercome stated that the decision to extend the event was based on the response of the players, fans and sponsors, which provided the ideal platform for the players to compete.
Following the conclusion of the quarterfinal fixtures, the semifinals will occur on Christmas and Boxing Day respectively.
Havercome pointed out that players, fans and sponsors have displayed tremendous support for the event since its inception, making the decision to extend its overall duration an easy choice.
According to Havercome, the staging of the event highlights that football is truly alive in the East Coast Demerara region, adding that the intention is for the tournament to be an annual affair.
Seweon McGarrell, 592 Brand Manager, stated that the entity is fully supportive of the decision to extend the tournament following tremendous support since its inception.
He added that the organizing team has executed a well-coordinated venture, which provides the avenue for growth in the coming editions amongst the teams and players.
The opening quarterfinal matches today will see Mahaica against Friendship from 20:00hrs, while the second match will pit Buxton against Paradise from 22:00hrs.
The event then moves to the Golden Grove ground on December 22nd.
In the first match, Brush Dam will match skills with Golden Grove from 20:00hrs, with Beterverwagting [BV] matching skills with Ann’s Grove at 22:00hrs. The respective winners will progress to the semi-final section.
