(Trinidad Express) Police detained two men yesterday afternoon when they were caught using a card-skimming device at a Scotiabank automated teller machine (ATM) in Trincity Mall.

Around 3.30 p.m., officers of the Fraud Squad received information and went to Trincity Mall, near Tru Valu supermarket, where they noticed a skimmer device attached to one of the ATMs.

Officers exited the area and waited to see if whoever fitted the device to the machine would return.

About half an hour later, two men were seen approaching the ATM and while attempting to remove the skimming device they were held by the officers.

Officers searched the men and also found 21 blank ATM cards.

Police said that customers’ information would have been placed on the blank cards, which would then be used to withdraw cash.

The men were arrested and were being questioned at the Fraud Squad office in Port of Spain last night.

A video yesterday showed two men on the floor of the mall being searched by police officers. The person who made the video voiced it as well.

She is heard saying: “Policeman arrest two men in the Trincity Mall ATM here. They using this thing on the ground here (card-skimming device) to take your PIN number. You see how much cards they have and when you leave the ATM and you walk off they taking your PIN and withdrawing all your money.”
