The selection committee of the Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF) is one step closer to identifying their national under – 21 squads to tour French Guiana in February following yesterday’s hit out among the country’s top under – 21 players at the National Gymnasium.
The session, which took the form of a trial, was organised as part of the process to identify the prospective players and positional combinations.
National coach Levi Nedd supervised the day’s proceedings and revealed to Stabroek Sports that he is pleased with the intensity of the players during the workout.
“I’m happy that we could have had such a turn out with such an impromptu notice. We are pressed for time and this tournament will be held in February which right away tells us that we are short of training time. But I’m elated to see the turn out and the effort shown. It’s resounding,” he said.
He added that a few new talents caught his attention who will be hard to ignore when the final squad in named.
“I’m seeing some new talents here and it’s good for us, it’s good for volleyball because it’s an indicator that the enthusiasm for the sport is clearly still around.”
The final squads will be named in January. Following the announcement, the official delegation will commence an intense training regimen in order to be competitive during their international assignment.
