The Mayor and City Council and the Ministry of Public Infrastructure have done a clean-up of Caneview Avenue, South Ruimveldt Gardens, Georgetown, the Department of Public Information (DPI) reported yesterday.
City Councillor Denroy Tudor said that the dumping of garbage along the street was an issue that had been affecting residents in the area for some time.
Tudor said Council had cleared the area several times since he took office in 2018 but that has not stopped the dumping, DPI reported.
“It’s certainly saddening to see what has transpired and I’m encouraging residents of not only this constituency but the entire municipality to desist from dumping. We certainly want to see this country, this capital city returned to being a garden city, and we need each and everyone to be a part of that process,” Tudor stated.
Deputy Mayor Alfred Mentore said the current situation was unbecoming and meant additional funds had to be found to remedy the situation. He also expressed the Council’s gratitude to the public infrastructure ministry for its help.
Resident and Constituency Manager of Constituency 14,
Brenda Williams said that the dumping in the area had made a section of the road inaccessible as persons continue to discard items such as fridges, stoves and even dead pets and other animals.
“It’s just not right. I think the Council should institute some charges against these persons who feel …that they can do as they like,” she asserted.
