Azim Ali, the 30-year-old man who the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) said was recently intercepted with just over 68 pounds of marijuana, was remanded to prison last Wednesday after being charged with possession of the drug for trafficking.
The charge alleges that Ali, on December 5th, 2019, at De Willem village, West Coast Demerara, had 30.902 kilogrammes, equivalent to 68.127 pounds of cannabis, in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Ali, who stood before Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul at the Wales Magistrate’s Court, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
