Lucky Star pitches again

Lucky Star

Lucky Star continues to play the role of spoiler.

After upsetting the field to win the Guyana Cup in August at the Rising Sun Turf Cluf, the Cheefoon Stable standout took it talents to the Port Mourant Turf Club on Sunday and galloped away with the spoils of the feature C and Lower 1600m event.

And once again the chest mare beat the odds to earn a huge upset victory over some of Guyana’s premier trotters including the fleet footed Don’t Overlook who played second fiddle.

Fans were buzzing with excitement in anticipation of a victory for the heavyweights, Don’t Over, Just Call Me Boss and T&T but Lucky Star trampled the pre-race hype and expectations to win by about a half a length to pocket the $600,000 first prize for its handlers.

Don’t Overlook’s owner Nasrudeen Mohamed Jr. would not be too disappointed since he pocketed the $300,000 second place winnings. Half that amount went to T&T’s owners, from the Nand Persaud Racing Stables.

Just Call Me Boss of the Jagdeo Racing Stables placed fourth.

Lucky Star who was won via a raffle last year, took control of the race after the first furlong and left the field in its rear view, never letting up as the lead increased with every powerful stride.

Guided by champion jockey, Colin Ross the steed drew off on the home straight of the well prepared track to seal the victory.

The ‘Sport of Kings’ continues on December 26 with the Kennard Memorial Boxing Day fixture. It will be interesting to see if the top horses in the 592 will compete again before the start of the new season.
