A man who was reportedly ‘flying over the fence” with a quantity of stolen items was denied bail after being charged in a City court.
Cecil Forde, 49, was before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts yesterday, when he was remanded to prison after the owner of the home he allegedly stole from, told the court that Forde was the person who stole from her.
The charge stated that on December 8, at 747 Avocado Place, East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, he broke and entered the dwelling house of Sonia Aaron and stole 12 zinc sheets, two gas cylinders and a quantity of clothes, costing a total of $142,000.
The unrepresented ‘weeder’ man denied the allegation, but the woman he allegedly stole from, stood up in court and told the Magistrate that she was positive that he was the man who broke into her home and stole the items. “He came into my home. I saw him with my own eyes, I had a black bag of clothes and the zincs were removed because of some construction… I saw him with the bag of clothes, he had already throw some over the fence. I holler at him and he looked at me and then continued flying over the fence” she related to the court.
Police Prosecutor Seon Blackman also presented his facts to the court. In the prosecutor’s facts, the court heard that Aaron was home at the time of the break-in and that she was made aware of the break-in after she heard a noise coming from the western side of her home, so she went to see what it was. Upon inspection, she saw the defendant with the items in his hand. The prosecutor said that Aaron raised an alarm and as a result, Forde jumped over the fence with the items in his hand. Aaron then made a report at a Police Station and upon further investigation, she positively identified Forde to the police.
The prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds of the prevalence of the offence, the penalty it attracts and also the value of the articles mentioned in the charge.
The Magistrate, after listening to the prosecutor and the virtual complainant, remanded Forde to prison until January 15, 2020.
